If you haven’t already heard the exciting news, we suggest you get ready, because 2019 is set to be a special year when it comes to new video games. Many of the world’s leading game studios have been working hard to ensure that 2019, which looks to be the last full year for the current console generation, brings with it some of the best games we have ever seen.

Without further ado, let’s jump into what we believe will be the top five video games to look forward to throughout 2019.

#1: Anthem (Release Date: February 22)

BioWare’s Anthem is set to be the best game that this formidable game studio has put out in years, even as questions surrounding the nature of its microtransactions linger. While Anthem is undoubtedly a departure from the classic role-playing game format, past games like Destiny have shown that online multiplayer can form the basis for a fantastic gaming experience.

#2: Battletoads (Release Date: TBD)

It’s been over twenty years since we have seen a new installment of this NES classic, but it looks as if 2019 might mark the end of this long wait. As one of the hardest games ever to be made for NES, we are sure that this new iteration of Battletoads will not disappoint. Look for modern improvements and a slightly different artistic approach to breath new life into this classic co-op brawler.

#3: Far Cry: New Dawn (Release Date: February 15)

So far, the Far Cry series has taken players to war-torn nations, exotic jungles, and rural America. However, this new installment of this iconic series looks to be going in a slightly different direction by giving players a look at what the end of the Far Cry world may look like.

All signs point to the fact that New Dawn will feature the benefits of iconic Far Cry gameplay, with the real hook here being how the game’s apocalyptic premise affects the world itself. Needless to say, we are anxiously looking forward to playing it ourselves.

#4: Mortal Kombat 11 (Release Date: April 23)

Mortal Kombat stands alone as one of the best fighting games of all time. Amazingly enough, little has changed throughout this game’s distinguished history, and this trend looks to continue with Mortal Kombat 11. With the game great hyper-violent fighting mechanics, we expect this newest edition to raise the standard for fighting games even higher.

#5: Gears 5 (Release Date: Late 2019)

Gears 5, as the working title for the newest Gears of War installation, is known, looks to be an exciting turning point for this classic Xbox franchise. Look forward to advancements that build off of the strong foundation set by Gears of War 4, including improved fighting mechanics and a more in-depth look into this world’s unique storyline. As one of the last exclusive releases for the Xbox One, we are looking to send this much-beloved console out with a bang.
